Make a Difference at Central High School!

The School Governance Council provides an opportunity for parents, teachers, students, and community members to work together so that all CHS students are better prepared for success. Members bring to the table concerns and issues that most need to be addressed for improving our school.

Research has shown that these partnerships contribute to greater student achievement.  Students with involved families tend to have higher grades and test scores, better attendance, and higher rates of homework completion.

What does the School Governance Council Do?

  1. Improves communication between all partners because each is able to voice ideas and concerns so that there is better administrating of our school.

  2. Assists the principal in decisions impacting students’ education by:

    • Identifying school needs,

    • Analyzing student test (or performance) data,

    • Reviewing the school’s resources for students; and

    • Advising the principal in programmatic and operational changes

What does it require to be on the School Governance Council?

  • Serving as a council member will require time, energy and a willingness to listen.

  • Members need to be willing to make a 2-year commitment (1 year for students) to meet at least once a month.  All are expected to:

    • Put the students first;

    • Be a team player; and

    • Be willing to learn.

REWARDS:  The rewards of serving on a School Governance Council are great. Council members contribute their unique experiences and beliefs so we can best serve Central High School students.  Your work will improve the lives of many children.
